What can an overseas foreign buyer use as address proof for Japanese property registration?

更新日: 2026-09-02 / 最終確認日: 2026-09-02

Answer

Ministry of Justice guidance indicates that typical evidence includes an address certificate issued by the government of the home or residence country, or a notarized address statement together with a valid passport copy. Foreign-language documents require a Japanese translation. For ownership registrations from April 1, 2024, domestic-contact information is also relevant, so the exact filing package should be confirmed with the judicial scrivener and Legal Affairs Bureau.

Verification date

Based on primary Japanese government sources checked as of September 2, 2026. Confirm current requirements for the specific case.
